The Lake Victoria Challenge aims to showcase advances in unmanned aerial technologies for social impact, with a special focus in cargo delivery.
A week ago today I was on one of the islands in Lake Victoria to scout out potential sites that can be involved in the challenge. The idea is for the main base to be on the “mainland” of Mwanza with challenges which will involve UAV’s ferrying cargo to and from the islands. I was with others who were tasked with actually walking around the island, meeting with the locals and various community leaders. While they walked around my job was to get the data required to be able to build a high resolution aerial image of the island AND elevation data that would be critical to both the teams participating in the challenge and the challenge designers. So here is some prelminary output from that work. I did not have my big processing rig with me in Mwanza so did a quick first pass using the cloud version of pix4d so its easy to share….
